Quick Cleaning Tricks During the Holidays

quick cleaning tricks during the holidays

It’s the most joyful time of the year! Family gatherings, lots of food, beautifully wrapped presents and amazing Christmas spirit. 7 days later the fun continues with huge New Year’s parties. But in between these two major celebrations, there’s a week of messy homes and quite a big dose of laziness. We get it, after all the turkey you ate over Christmas it’s hard to be thinking of washing dishes, dusting and vacuuming. All you really want at that time is lie on the sofa and watch a funny movie. It wouldn’t be a great way to start the new year with a mess all around you, though. That’s why we thought we’d share some quick cleaning tricks you can apply between the holidays.

    Removing unpleasant smells

After all the food that got served and eaten on Christmas Day, plus all the people that visited, it won’t be surprising if you can smell something that doesn’t make your nostrils feel quite right. The solution is super simple. Sprinkle some baking soda over the carpet and furniture. Leave it there for 30 minutes then run the vacuum cleaner for a couple of minutes. To make sure your mission is accomplished successfully, use some essential oils to spray the living room or other places in the house where you can smell unpleasant odours.

When the kids get creative on the walls

Children get overly excited on Christmas. That’s often a reason for them to express their creativity on the walls and furniture. Instead of freaking out, just use some toothpaste and apply it on the marks. Gently rub it with a soft sponge. Before you know it, the marker traces will be gone.

    Removing greasy stains from fabrics

Stains on clothes and the carpet are almost inevitable during Christmas time. The quicker you act the better. All you need to do is sprinkle some salt to take out the oily part and then apply dishwashing detergent on the stain. Rinse with water and you’ll forget something even happened on there.

    Change your pillows and comforter

Your pillows and duvets also need to be refreshed, washed or changed from time to time. If you didn’t do that before Christmas, we’d suggest just visiting the home department of any big store on Boxing Day and getting yourself new pillows and comforter or a duvet. You start the new year with fresh bedding and you get a good deal on it!

    Create your own all-purpose cleaner

To solve almost any cleaning problem that may arise between the holidays, just create your own natural all-purpose cleaner. All you need is an empty spray bottle, 4 tablespoons of baking soda and warm water. This magic solution will clean perfectly nearly all surfaces. Use a soft sponge to wipe off the mess.

    Have a plastic bag closeby

Unwrapping presents can be quite messy, especially when you have little children, eager to see if Santa brought them all they asked for. To make it easier for yourself to clean up later, keep a plastic bag closeby and just put all the paper and boxes in it. Then take it straight to the recycle bin!

Of course, there’s always an even easier and quicker alternative to all these tips and tricks. Just book our after party cleaning service and sip your tea from the sofa, blissfully enjoying the doing nothing time between the holidays.
